Hiding Isn’t Neutral: My Visibility Journey

In this episode of the Visibility Medicine Podcast, our host Danielle opens up about her own personal journey and how it has shaped her relationship with visibility. With great vulnerability, she shares deeply personal experiences that have profoundly influenced her perspective.

Danielle reminds us that we all carry visibility wounds, although they may differ in intensity and nature. These wounds have undoubtedly left their mark on our lives, influencing the way we navigate the world. Through her heartfelt words, she invites each listener to create a safe space where we can openly discuss and heal these wounds, empowering ourselves to take up the space we truly deserve.

She challenges the notion that staying small ensures safety, emphasizing the importance of envisioning a life that is fully alive and unafraid to occupy every inch of space. Join us as we embark on this transformative journey towards embracing our own visibility and cultivating a sense of freedom and authenticity.

[00:02:31] “I have composted them and transformed them as best as I can, and here's what I know. Hiding is not neutral. Hiding is an active and exhausting force. Hiding is a verb for me. Growing up, my mom and I were followed, harassed and violated by a stalker for 11 years. We changed locations, even country”

[00:04:40] “And so there was always a wall. I knew they didn't know me and when I was younger. I craved community, but we were always on the move and we didn't leave a trace. And being in community means sticking around long enough that you're seen and you're known. And I carried some of this forward. These became core visibility wounds for me.”

[00:06:11] “And I'm sorry for the hurt or suffering, that any personal injuries or wounds that you've gone through have caused you. And also I want you to fully integrate the shit parts so you can have the medicine and magic that's available to you sometimes. The potion really isn't the poison. We can alchemize and transform the raw materials into gold.”
